So i went down to London yesterday to watch the rugby (Harlequins RL vs. Leeds Rhinos). I’m, a big Quins fan, even though i like in Wakefield, and could support any number of local teams - Wakefield, Leeds, Bradford, Castleford (and thats just in Super League, I couldn’t count the number on both my hands of Local teams in lower divisions), but I just like Quins. I suppose it’s on par with someone from London supporting Manchester United. Mostly its because my mum and dad went to every home game in London when my cousin played for them and they got to know the fans, players and became fans themselves, I’ve just always tagged along to the Quins fan and slowly converted myself into a fan.
Going down to watch the matches isn’t something i do often, just when my Dad offers to take me along with them, i wouldn’t pass it up, its not something i could do, it was a 3 hour drive from home to the match, then the same back after the match. Who would have thought sitting on your ass for three hours in a car would be so tiring.
Anyway, it was a challenge cup match, really i wasn’t expecting Quins to win, which i suppose isn’t something a fan of them should say! Really Leeds have been shit hot this season in the Super League, they’ve only lost (i think) two matches from 12, but, its the Challenge Cup, its not like Super League in the sense that anything can happen really, so you know, i was hoping they’d pull out a W.
The match was good mostly, I was pissed off that i was sat behind a couple of Leeds fans, seriously, i would NOT sit in the opponents fan’s side of the field if i could help it. Anyway, the first half was all Rhino’s, the referee was very bias towards them, letting them off for things that he would later penalise Quins for, isn’t it always the case? I FUCKING HATE REFEREES, i just wish that they could be fair and impartial,. is it too much to ask? seriously! At half time, Quins were losing and during the half time festivities i was Buck and Dusty (the Quins mascots) make their way out, and i joked that Quins were going to win now they’re mascots were out. Wow, was i ever right, Yes Quins didn’t end up winning, but they certainly looked like they were going to, they scored three great tries in the space of 12 minutes, with two goals getting converted.
I thought Quins had the match won, they just had to keep Leeds away from their try line, they had a fourth try disallowed for a “forward pass”, i have to say that was questionable to me, it didn’t look forward from where i was standing. This gave Leeds the opportunity to come back, they scored a try and then got another with questionable grounding in the last minutes. So Quins lost, which sucks.
It all comes down to referees, Quins could have had the match if it wasn’t for a crook ref. But thats how all sports are played today. Its something that needs to be fixed for the health of all sports. referees should be fair, but what would we all have to complain about if they were, lol.
